Nestling diet of the Algerian Nuthatch<i>Sitta ledanti</i>, an endemic threatened bird in Babors’ Kabylia region (north-eastern Algeria)

The Algerian Nuthatch is an endemic and protected bird species in Algeria, its different habitats are threatened by fires others human actions; the therefore considered ‘Endangered’. A faecal samples analysis of species’ nestlings was done to determine their diet. nestling were collected during breeding season 2019 Tamentout deciduous forest region Babors’ Kabylia (north-east Algeria). allowed us count 686 individuals belonging 39 prey taxa. They belong two arthropods classes six orders. Insects (95.4%) more dominant compared with spiders (4.96%). Beetles most diverse, 22 taxa 293 individuals. Dermaptera (earwigs) represented only 265 individuals, European Earwig Forficula auricularia recorded 253 times. correlation also found between sizes energy intake. Costello’s charts indicated five potential including auricularia, Oxythyrea funesta Anthaxia sp. consumed. niche breadth calculation (0.017) revealed that specialises on some items such as feed nestlings. prized had 14.5 mm 19 mm, has a size 15 mm.
